In centOs:
sudo yum install php72-php-gd.x86_64
In ubuntu:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ondrej/php
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install php7.2-gd

In Windows I had to add extension=php_gd2.dll to the bottom of my php.ini file.

You can also run `php --ini` inside terminal to see which files are used by PHP in CLI mode.
